Five new phone masts for Tyrone

Haulage companies in the Tyrone area will have no trouble communicating with one another after mobile phone operator Orange announced plans to build five new transmitters in Castle Hill, Dungannon, West Coalisland and Augher, with current sites also to be upgraded in a two-year £1.1 million investment programme.

A company spokesman said a proposal to share an existing mast at Creenagh Bridge Road, Coalisland had received planning approval.
He also added that a fifth site was proposed for Stewartstown where Orange are currently searching for a suitable site.

General manager of Orange Eric Carson said: “We know some people may be concerned at the prospect of more mobile phone masts been built.
But for every person who complains about a mast there’s someone else who’ll complain to the mobile phone companies about poor coverage,” he said.

Mr Carson went on to say that all Orange transmitters were designed to work at a small fraction of the strict international radio guidelines recommended by the Stewart Report.
