Six die in day of carnage
Six people were killed yesterday (May 1) is separate road accidents across
the country in what was a very black day for the road transport industry.
In Co Tipperary a 22-year-old old man was killed when the articulated
lorry he was driving went out of control and crashed through a barrier
just outside Cashel at 8.40am A 12-year-old boy was killed as his bicycle
collided with a truck at Melview, three miles from Longford town. The
accident happened at 4.30pm.
Just an hour earlier an eight-year-old boy died, when he apparently ran
into the path of a lorry. The accident happened at Bohalis on the N5 on
the Ballaghaderreen to Charlestown Road.
In Co Monaghan, a 70-year-old woman died when her car was involved in
a crash with a lorry at Castleshane, near Monaghan town. In Co Kerry a
man died and another was seriously injured in a two car smash on the main
Killarney to Tralee Road. The accident happened at 5.40pm. In Co Wexford
a 27-year-old was killed in Rocksborough when he lost control of his motorbike
and collided with a tree.
