Safety council receives insurance industry funding
The National Safety Council's (NSC) road and fire safety campaign received
a E1.25 million boost from the Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) yesterday
(May 7).
The IIF has also agreed to fund the NSC for the three-year duration of
the next government road safety strategy. IIF president, Ian Stuart, said
NSC activities must be supported by adequate garda traffic enforcement,
otherwise the recent reduction in the number of fatalities would not be
sustained.
He said: "We must create the perception in all road users that if they
speed, drink drive, or fail to wear a seatbelt, the likelihood is they
will be caught and punished."
