Random breath testing on the way
The Government is set to introduce tough new regulations within the next
three weeks, which will allow the gardai to carry out random breath testing.
Until now, gardai had to form an opinion that a motorist was intoxicated
or had been involved in an accident before they could be breathalysed.
However, Transport Minister Seamus Brennan is ready to introduce a new
regulation that will allow gardai to test motorists for drink driving,
once they have committed any one of hundreds of minor infringements.
