Council worker dies in roller tragedy

A Kerry county council worker was killed yesterday (May 14) when he was crushed by a roller during road repair works.

The 53 year-old man from Castlemaine sustained fatal injuries in the accident, which happened at about 10.30am. It is understood the man was crushed by the vehicle, before he could be freed by colleagues.

He was rushed to Tralee General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The fatal accident happened just outside Anascaul in North Kerry. The Health and Safety Authority has initiated an investigation into the tragedy.
