The jobs are expected as the result of an anticipated €1 billion increase in the value of building activity during the year.

The value of construction activity should increase to around €11b in 2014, according to the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) estimates. This would be up from the estimated €9.9b value recorded in 2013, which was in turn up from the previous year.

“We expect to see a strong increase in construction activity during the course of the coming year,” confirms CIF director general Tom Parlon. “For the first time in seven years there are a lot of reasons for the construction sector to have a positive outlook for the upcoming year,”

Almost €7b worth of large- and medium-sized projects have been scheduled for this year and further projects are expected as part of the National Stimulus Plan.
