Paneltex VW Crafter at IAA 2014)

At this year’s IAA Show in Hannover, leading UK bodybuilder Paneltex will be displaying two vehicles from its diverse product portfolio, demonstrating its longstanding reputation for designing and manufacturing innovative products.

Displayed on the stand will be medium wheelbase, high roof, left-hand drive VW Crafter Arctic Edition panel van, built by the Somers division of Paneltex for its dealer MAN Tilburg in Holland, and this vehicle is fully ATP Class C certified. The Crafter has a GAH Flexi-temp (Simultaneous Heat Cool) dual refrigeration system, which can heat, cool or freeze in either of the two compartments (by absorbing or dissipating heat from any of its three heat exchangers at the same time, giving up to 3.5kw of heating or cooling), along with a flexible, removable bulkhead offering any combination of temperatures from -25° to +25°C.

The second vehicle on show on the Paneltex stand will be a 3.5 tonne Mercedes Sprinter chassis cab with Paneltex 3650mm refrigerated box body designed especially for the intensive, multi-drop home delivery market.

This fully European type-approved vehicle, which is in the livery of the on-line retailer Ocado, has double rear doors, hinged for 270° opening, as well as single doors to each side, which open through 180°. A pair of lightweight insulated doors is fitted within the body to separate the ambient area from the chilled area, whilst refrigeration is provided by a bespoke lightweight GAH refrigeration unit. Aerodynamic drag is reduced by curving the front roof section and lowering the insulated roof below the level of the fridge. A kerb weight of only 2 ¼ tonnes makes this vehicle a truly efficient multi-temperature grocery delivery vehicle.
