Encore extends Michelin’s truck tyre service package

Encore is the name of an entirely new service package from Michelin, which meets the demands of the UK commercial vehicle operators. Encore recognises the requirements of today’s busy fleet managers. These professionals require a single source to provide a total tyre life package.

Michelin will add the Encore service to the existing supply offer of new and Remix. Encore is an exclusive service package, which includes a new retreading process delivering high quality product. Encore has been developed to meet customer demands for a one-stop-shop. It is a major extension of the Michelin truck tyre service package. Encore will become an integral element of the proven Michelin philosophy.

The Michelin professional truck tyre management programme has provided experienced fleet owners with premium quality, cost effective, new tyre products. These products have their life extended by regrooving, then retreading through the Remix process and on to a further regroove. At that point in the tyre’s life cycle fleet managers have either to find their own disposal route or look for another retreader. This retreader will assess the casing and could provide a further retread for trailer or drive-axle fitment.

With the Encore service package now available, a truck fleet can continue to benefit from the proven and highly respected tyre management programme provided by Michelin and its service partners. Instead of losing this benefit, an operator adopting Encore maintains the constant value of Michelin service, including the respected casing bank service. Michelin aims to meet this service requirement and manage it professionally for its customers.

Extending the scope of the Michelin tyre management programme with Encore will also have a significant environmental benefit by prolonging the useful life of the casings. When the casing eventually reaches the end of its life Michelin has an ongoing scrap disposal programme aiming for the highest levels of environmental clearance.

Encore has been established with substantial investment in new, independent retread production facilities at Stoke-on-Trent. This philosophy reflects the importance placed on this market sector. A UK brand working party evolved the total strategy, which will now be introduced slowly into the transport market.

“The UK transport industry is arguably the most sophisticated in Europe and we believe Encore will answer their continuing needs,” says Fraser Kyle, Head of UK fleet operations. “Encore is a brand new service package which also has a fine technical pedigree. Our resources will make it a highly competitive commercial offering. As leader in the industry, we understand the needs of the operators and our philosophy is always to exceed the expected levels of service. We expect to prove the value of this strategy in a relatively short space of time.

Michelin and selected service partners will deliver Encore and provide the tyre management package. The Encore service offer provides the ability to use all the customers casing stock. It is the perfect complement to the existing four-lives package, already recognised as the industry’s cost-effective standard.

By retaining Encore as a ‘non-retail’ product only available as part of the Michelin tyre management programme, it is expected that new markets will be reached. Introducing Encore to these markets offers Michelin immense sales potential.
Encore is announced today and limited production of popular sizes has commenced with operational trials now running in the UK.
