Frigoscandia choose Thermo King’s R: COM Remote Data Downloading

Frigoscandia Distribution, the leading European supplier of logistics services for frozen food, has recently taken delivery of ten new Chereau-built reefers, fitted with Thermo King SL-300 refrigeration units with R:COM automatic data downloading facility.

R:COM allows Frigoscandia to automatically download all temperature data, including any anomalies and alarm codes, as soon as the trailer enters the Frigoscandia depot. Requiring no effort from the driver, the information acquired through the Thermo King DAS data acquisition system and Smart Reefer microprocessor controller is downloaded directly to Frigoscandia’s computer network using radio waves, via antennae located at the depot and on the refrigeration unit.

Thermo King’s R:COM system is currently used on all trailers in Frigoscandia’s 60-strong dedicated Birds Eye Walls fleet, however Frigoscandia have plans to roll out the technology on the remainder of its fleet, according to Barrie Shrosbree.

The ten new trailers will form part of Frigoscandia’s 180-strong national fleet, transporting frozen goods from manufacturers such as Birds Eye Walls, Mars, Heinz and Fisher Foods to Frigoscandia’s warehouses in Kings Lynn, Grimsby, South Kirkby, Portbury or Hams hall for consolidation and delivery to supermarket RDCs.

Frigoscandia was founded in 1950, and now operates from 75 sites throughout Europe, with a fleet of over 700 refrigerated trucks and trailers and 4.4 million m3 of cold storage capacity.
