Girl gets £1.4 million compensation after collision
with lorry
A 12-year-old girl from Athboy in Co Meath who sustained an "appalling"
leg injury after she was struck by a truck has been awarded £1.4
million in the High Court.
The court heard that Sarah Hayes, Otterstown, Athboy was six years old
when the accident happened at Townsparks, Athboy on 15th March 1995. Her
council told the court a lorry came round the corner, collided with the
child and drove over her leg.
She suffered an "appallingly severe" and disfiguring injury
and spent almost a year in hospital after the accident. She has undergone
some 43 medical procedures since the accident.
According to council, she can walk, but will never be able to run, play
games or dance. Through her mother, Breda Hayes, Sarah took proceedings
against Aidan Keating of Ardsallagh, Navan, Co Meath, the driver of the
lorry.
