VAT fraudsters target Michelin truck tyres in Europe

Michelin has warned customers and distributors to be wary when offered truck tyres at extraordinarily low prices. Michelin is working with police and customs authorities in Europe as it appears that these low prices can only be the result of illegal activities believed to be VAT fraud.

Already these investigations have identified organised criminal networks and as a result, a number of VAT frauds have been broken up.

Michelin is concerned at the harm done to its truck tyre brand image and to its distributor network. The company has asked customers to be mindful of complicity in illegal purchases from these criminal networks. The Michelin Group is identifying specific cases to the appropriate authorities in a co-ordinated effort to drive out this damaging commercial fraud.
