The tanks are on Scania P114 8x6 rear steer 32 tonne chassis, and feature
high speed pumping meter systems. Stuart Cornthwaite, Managing Director
at SJ Bargh Ltd, commented: The high speed pumping meter system
allows us to collect and deliver milk at roughly double the usual speed,
making our operation more efficient. He added: The manoeuvrability
of the tanker is improved thanks to the rear steered axles.
Crossland developed the tanker to SJ Bargh Ltds specification, featuring
a high speed Piper pumping system, which can pump milk at around 1,000
litres per minute. The concept of an eight wheel rigid vehicle with
21,000 litre tank used on farm collection came from Denmark, and we developed
it in the UK with Arla. We were the first in the UK to offer this configuration
in conjunction with our customers Arla Foods.
SJ Bargh Ltd, established in 1935, provides general haulage and milk distribution
services throughout the North West of England and North Wales. One of
the new tankers will be used to collect milk for Arla Foods and the other
will collect milk for Dairy Farmers of Britain.
SJ Bargh has known Massey - now Crossland Tankers - many years, according
to Stuart. We use Crossland because they are the market leading
milk tanker manufacturers and also because they are local to us,
he added.
Crossland Tankers, who took over Massey Tankers earlier this year, was
formed in 1988 to manufacture, refurbish and repair road tankers.
The companys product range includes milk, waste, chemical and water
tanks. Crossland is based in Swatragh, Co Derry, and also operates from
the existing Massey site in Burnley.
