Michelin Accountability at every level for HMT

As part of its tyre management strategy Co Down-based HMT (Shipping) Ltd is using Michelin’s “Four Lives” tyre policy across its entire fleet of 250 trailers and 25 tractor units. This comprehensive service is being managed by ATS Euromaster.

HMT Shipping is using Michelin's "Four Lives" tyre policy

HMT started using Michelin tyres in 2000 on a two year contract, which has since been renewed on an ongoing basis. Gerard Magee, Operations Director of HMT, explained. “We have seen the benefits of using a quality product and having it properly delivered and managed by a professional organisation.”

“At one stage our tyre supply and service was bought on an ad-hoc basis with no defined policy and little accountability. After detailed discussions with ATS, we decided to implement a tyre management system to provide accountability at every level.

“We now have regular reports detailing transactions based on pre-agreed pricing levels. We can trace the movement of every tyre fitted and casing removed, ensuring we are utilising the full four lives of each tyre.”

HMT operates a door-to-door trailer service between Ireland and the UK, carrying cargo ranging from food to medical supplies and steel to timber products. Reducing breakdowns and increasing tyre performance are key to the business, and deliverable through Michelin and ATS, according to the company.

“Downtime has been significantly reduced through the reliability of new and RemiX Michelin tyres, coupled with the proactive fleet inspections carried out at our depots and dockside.

“Using the Michelin “Four Lives” tyre policy has relieved our main concerns. We now receive a monthly electronic update showing all call-out areas, as well as charges including new tyres, RemiX and regrooving. Having a single source has also reduced the considerable cost of invoice processing, and gives us the visibility to pin-point any queries and deal with them immediately,” he concluded.
