The tankers will be collecting fresh milk from farms on behalf of Arla Foods Milk Partnership and delivering it to the company’s dairies.

The tankers are made from 304-grade stainless steel and are finished off with bright stainless steel cladding and the Arla Foods livery. The have each been built to a high specification with mechanical rear steer, for improved manoeuvrability, and MACs flowmetering system complete with GSM remote download. The tankers also have disc brakes and EBS braking for stability control. Four tankers in the programme have been specified with low level manways.

Gordan Irvine, Technical Director, Arla Foods Distribution commented:
“Our company has a long standing relationship with Crossland. Crossland in Burnley is our preferred supplier and repairer of tankers for milk and milk products. While these are the first semi-trailers we have had from Crossland, we already have a number of rigids built by Crossland/Massey in the fleet.”

In addition to the 16 trailers, Crossland is also part way through a programme to refurbish and remount thirty of Arla’s 16,500 litre, 26 tonne rigid farm collection tankers onto new chassis.

Arla currently operates 12 dairies and 12 distribution centres throughout the UK, processing approximately 2.4 billion litres of milk a year and employing over 6,000 people.
