Bandag launches a low-profile, long-haul traction product
The new Bandag BDA2 is a real opportunity for long-haul fleet managers
who want to improve the return on investment of their low profile traction
tyres. A BDA2 retread mirrors the original new tyre in every respect but
one: it costs only a fraction!
However, building equivalent traction, torque resistance, mileage and
reliability into the retread version was a technological challenge and
the result is a masterpiece of advanced technology.
The need for transporting higher volumes of lower density goods resulted
in the development of low-profile tyres on smaller wheels. The task was
arduous, as these revolutionary small, but wide tyres had to deliver the
same performance levels as standard sizes. Today, the long haul transport
segment is overrun with tyres featuring a very low section height.
The next step for the tyre industry was to adapt quality tyre retreading
to the new generation of low-profile truck tyres. To achieve that objective,
both the tread products and the retreading process had to equal the technological
feats of the new tyre manufacturers.
The new Bandag BDA2 kills two birds with one stone. It gives modern low-profile
tyres a second life with unaltered performance levels. And it is totally
suited to the high demands that powerful engines place on drive tyres
nowadays.
Part of that secret resides in the directional tread pattern. Its design
dramatically limits tread block movement, saves energy and delivers the
same performances as the original traction tyre.
BDA2 is a typical long-haul product that achieves impressive mileage performance
out on the highway. Its block-stabilising tread design, which is derived
from a popular new-tyre drive pattern, contributes amply to the overall
durability. The product also benefits from a Bandag rubber compound that
slows down tread wear, resulting in mileage gains. Mileage and tyre reliability
are not enough on their own, though. Stable and safe in all driving conditions,
the new BDA2 offers the driver a comfortable ride, even when fitted on
a low profile casing. Noise levels are also below future EC regulations.
For the sake of reliability and mileage, the new Bandag BDA2 protects
both itself and the casing against road hazards. The semi-closed shoulder
shields the tyre against lateral forces and ensures even wear. And the
Bandag rubber compound allows cool running that lessens casing fatigue.
With the development of the new BDA2, Bandag intends to help long-haul
fleets streamline their operations. Mission accomplished , obviously.
And at a much lower cost than new tyres.
