GE delivers Tip Tankers for Dairy Cooperative fleet renewal
Dairy Farmers of Britain have recently taken delivery of 19 32 tonne,
20,500 litre capacity stainless steel milk collection trucks which have
been supplied by GE Equipment Services, TIP Tanker Services for leading
milk distributor Lloyd Fraser (Bulk Liquids) Limited.
Leading manufacturer Crossland Tankers (Burnley) Ltd designed and built
the tanks and their high speed pumping system in co-operation with Dairy
Farmers of Britain. The results are farm collection tankers with over
20,000 litres capacity, pumping rates of over 50,000 litres per hour, a
low tare weight and excellent access to farms.
With highly efficient loading and un-loading times of 21 minutes, the
new tankers have been introduced as part of a fleet modernisation programme
funded by GE replacing smaller, older units with new higher capacity tanks.
Dairy Farmers of Britain have a total fleet of 148 vehicles with over
a half leased from GE Equipment Services. Walter Schafer, Project Logistics
Manager for Dairy Farmers of Britain commented: We choose to lease
our vehicles through GE Equipment Services because of the greater flexibility
and ability to upgrade out fleet. The new tankers have greater capacity
thus improving efficiency, reducing transports costs, and being more environmentally
friendly.
Dairy Farmers of Britain is the leading dairy farmers, co-operative in
the UK, marketing almost 2 billion litres of high quality milk per year
from more than 3250 member farms. Established in 2002 by the merger of
Zenith Milk and the Milk Group, the company operates 10 dairy processing
sites and over 60 product distribution depots.
