When choosing a new van or light commercial for your business, there are many factors that have to be taken into consideration. To help you make the right decision, look no further than P & J Casey Ltd, main Ford dealers for Leitrim.
Since opening for business in Carrick-on-Shannon nearly six years ago, P & J Casey Ltd has built up an ultra-loyal customer base which comes back time after time. Casey’s have sold hundreds of new and used commercial vehicles and would be only too happy to look after your requirements.

“Our aim has always been to put the customer first. Personal service is a big thing with us,” says Clive Roe, General Manager of P & J Casey Ltd, Carrick-on-Shannon.
“When a customer comes into us, the first thing we ask them is: what’s their requirement? This question applies especially to the Ford Transit which comes in a wide range of models and sizes.

“There is no point in someone buying a 1-tonne van if what they really need is a 2-tonne. Likewise, it wouldn’t make much sense for someone who delivers boxes of crisps for a living to buy a 2-tonne Transit. All these things have to be taken into consideration when you choose a van. And that’s where we can lend our expertise.”

The Transit celebrates its 40th year on the Irish market as the country’s best selling commercial vehicle. Last year, the Ford mainstay claimed an 11 per cent share of the entire market, with sales more than double those of its nearest competitor. Completing a hat-trick for the blue oval, the Fiesta van and the Focus van were the most popular models in their respective segments.

In total, 4,684 Transit units were sold last year, more than twice that of the Volkswagen Transporter and Nissan Primastar. Introduced in early 2005, the Focus van took the number one spot in its segment. With sales of 487 units, it pipped the VW Golf and Toyota Corolla. Meanwhile, the Fiesta van was the best-selling commercial ‘super-mini’ on the market, ahead of the Peugeot 206.

Main Ford dealers Casey's Garage Carrick-on-Shannon are sponsoring a van for Leitrim Senior team manager Dessie Dolan for twelve months. The Van, a Ford Transit Connect, was presented to Dolan during the 2005 county semi-finals in Carrick, l/r: Jim Meehan (County Board Treasurer), John Keenan (Leitrim Senior team liaison), Gerry McGovern (County Board Secretary), Dessie Dolan, Pat Prior (Selector), Clive Roe (General Manager Casey's Garage Carrick-on-Shannon) and Declan Bohan (County Board Secretary and selector)

In the dedicated sub 1-tonne segment, the Transit Connect strongly outpaced the market with sales up 65 per cent to 1,435. Overall, Ford sales rose to 6,821 units, or 16 per cent of the market.

As referred to by Clive, the Transit is available in a wide range of models. The Transit van offers short, medium or long wheelbase and front or rear wheel drive, plus three roof heights for ultimate flexibility. Prices start from a very affordable EUR20,690 and a special edition Transit Legend is currently on the market.

The smaller Transit Connect comes in short and long wheelbases and has a starting price of EUR14,335. The Transit Minibus can seat either 15 or 17 passengers, while the Tourneo is a more compact nine-seater.
The Transit Chassis Cab is available in short, medium, long and extended frame wheelbases and can be built to the customer’s specification. The Ford Ranger is built on a rugged ladder frame chassis and comes in a wide range of cab styles, as well as a choice of two- or four-wheel drive. This vehicle is a real workhorse and starts from EUR24,645.
“The Ford range of commercial vehicles is second to none,” Clive explains.

“Starting off from the Fiesta van which is the smallest commercial and is available in petrol and diesel to the biggest Transit van, Ford caters for all your needs. To mark the Transit’s 40th anniversary celebrations, the special edition Transit Legend was recently launched. It is very affordable, anti-lock brakes are standard and comes with a host of other features.”

Conor Convey in the process of making another sale

The early signs are that 2006 will be another bumper year for sales of new Ford commercial vehicles. “There was a big upsurge in van sales in the early part of the New Year. In the first 10 days of January, sales of Ford light and medium commercials were up 28 per cent.
“Business is brisk at the moment and as I speak to you, we have two new 17-seater Transit Minibuses ready to be delivered to Rehab. We have a huge customer base, ranging from builders to florists,” Clive says.
Recently, P & J Casey Ltd handed over the keys of a new Ford Transit Connect to Leitrim football manager Dessie Dolan. The sponsored van is being used by Dessie to travel to and from his Athlone base to training in Leitrim a few times a week.
P & J Casey Ltd is part of Casey’s Auto Group which has its headquarters in Roscommon. The group has a third outlet in Moydrum, Athlone that was opened two years ago.

Casey’s Auto Group is a family owned business which has been in operation since 1925. Casey’s owes its success to a philosophy of looking after the customer for life by applying a genuine and honest approach to doing business. Casey’s have been the main Ford dealers in Roscommon for 80 years and the opening of the branch outlets in Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone makes them the largest dealer in the region.

Casey’s employs nine people at their Carrick-on-Shannon outlet. This figure includes four mechanics, one service advisor, one parts manager, one office administrator and sales representative Conor Convey. Before joining Casey’s, Clive Roe had worked in his family business, W Roe & Sons, who had been main Ford dealers in Boyle. Co. Roscommon.

In conclusion, Clive says: “We have some great deals on new and used Ford cars and commercials at the moment. We have a full after-sales facility and car accident repair centre. In short, we cater for all your motoring needs.”
