MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd is well known throughout the North-West as leading specialists in machinery parts, service, sales and hire.
Since it was founded by managing director Michael Joseph Toland in 1963, the company has been striving to provide the greater Derry area with one of the most comprehensive ranges of plant hire equipment. This well-established plant hire service is complemented by a dedicated parts service which is second to none.
“The business has evolved over the years,” explains parts manager Mark Toland, who is Michael Joseph’s son.

“Originally, it specialised in plant hire but has since expanded to cover all your plant and machinery needs. Our parts service has been very successful and we also specialise in plant and lorry repairs. We recently added a training centre which covers all aspects of how to operate plant machinery and it has been going very well so far.”
MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd prides itself in commitment to quality and service to its clients. Based at 27A Sheriff’s Road in Derry, adjacent to the BBC television mast, the company is only two miles from the Donegal border and its customers hail from throughout the North West.

“We get as many customers from Donegal as Derry which is hardly surprising given how close we are to the Donegal border. My father is originally from Killeagh, so he would have a lot of contacts in Donegal,” Mark says.
MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd service and repair a wide range of plant machinery which include rubber wheel diggers, track machines, telehandlers, dumpers and tractors. The company boasts a purpose-built facility which incorporates a 35-foot service pit, hydraulic garage lift, air assisted equipment as well as an extensive range of equipment, suitable for any application. Its mechanics are highly qualified and boast many years of experience in plant and machinery repair.

“Our garage is very spacious and one of its main features is a 35-foot pit which allows us to repair trailers up to 40 foot in length. The garage is big enough to service double-decker buses, so space certainly isn’t a problem.”
MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd is specialists for all plant equipment, serving the construction, transport and farming industries. Its staff is available from 8am to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday to attend to the customers’ needs.

“Our main customers would be building contractors, truck owners, farmers and bus companies. We have a huge amount of builders, in particular, doing business with us now thanks in no small part to the construction boom. We get an awful lot of repeat business which we appreciate very much,” Mark states.

In April 2002, the company opened the doors of a new parts department which specialises in the sale of plant and machinery parts to the public and private sector. MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd stocks all JCB, CAT and Hitachi parts to name but three. Hydraulic hoses can be manufactured while you wait, while a full range of excavator buckets are now in stock.

MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd is an agent for Interpart, which has been the only genuine alternative parts service throughout the 30-year development of the JCB. Operating from Manchester, Interpart has established a distributor centre network that now spans 65 countries and the five continents. The company’s Spanish office provides its European customer base with a central point of contact and helps to deliver the best possible service across the continent.

A member of the Independent Distributors Association (IDA), Interpart’s success is based on its ability to maintain an efficient and cost effective parts supply. Interpart has more than 5,000 part numbers in its product range and tries to ensure that all major lines are available ex-stock for same day delivery. Rubbolite is a leading international supplier of quality, heavy duty vehicle light equipment, offering a vast product range of internal and external mounted lamps, including front and rear marked lamps, sidemarker lamps and multi-functional rear lamps.

Draper have been manufacturing quality tools since 1919, while Dickies and Portwest both specialise in work wear, industrial footwear, safety equipment and leisurewear. Gem Oils is a well known oil distributing company which is based in Co. Cavan.
Recently, MJ Toland Enterprises Ltd opened a new training centre for learner machine and plant operators. Run by Mark’s brother Ciaran, the training centre provides full training in all aspects of plant operation with all the instructors being fully qualified and approved to train and examine prospective clients.

“All students are trained to the highest standards and they have to be in order to obtain their licence,” Mark says.
“The training centre is the latest service we offer and hopefully the business will continue to expand and prosper well into the future. We have built up a good reputation for ourselves and we don’t intend to let that slip.”
