With the genesis of the LDV Maxus dealership, the renowned four-wheel drive and commercial vehicle specialist has added a whole range of choice five-door vans to its list of brand-new products. The business was established over 30 years ago by Michael Fleming, who is still the boss today. Mike’s son Pat runs the Castleisland outlet, which was opened at a prime location six years ago and specialises in sales. Speaking from the Castleisland premises, Pat confirms: “We were delighted to take on the Maxus dealership at the start of the year. It came about as a mutual agreement between both parties.

“I was already keen to contact them to enquire about a possible dealership when, coincidentally, a representative of LDV called to us. Once he saw how strong we are, he wanted us to take the dealership on, which we were only too happy to do.
“It’s right up our alley as they specialise in commercials only, which is our area of expertise too. We always carry a huge stock of vans and we’d also be renowned all over Munster for new and second-hand four-wheel drives.”
LDV is based in Birmingham, UK and exclusively designs, manufactures and distributes the superb, dependable Maxus range of light commercial vehicles. Originally formed in 1993 as Leyland DAF Vans Ltd., it later changed its name to LDV Group Ltd. and has been under Gaz Group ownership since July 2006.

LDV has an annual turnover of £160m and exports vehicles to Europe, the Middle East and the Asian Pacific Rim. The company directly employs 900 people producing at a current rate of approximately 13,000 vehicles per year.

In May, the company announced plans to reduce its turnover time significantly by ramping up production levels at its Birmingham factory to deliver vans to customers in just four weeks from order (and minibuses within six weeks).
LDV’s Maxus range comes with a five year, 100,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty. Vans within the range include three roof heights, two wheelbase lengths and a choice of 2.8 tonne, 3.2 tonne and 3.5 tonne gross vehicle weights. So far, the new range is going down a treat at Flemings Motors. According to Pat: “They are selling well already and I’m confident they are going to be very strong. The Maxus will make a massive impact on the Irish market. It’s a very nice van to drive and it’s a miser on juice. It’s also well-priced and the five-year warranty cannot be matched. It’s brave of LDV to put their heads on the chopping block with such a generous warranty but it just shows how much confidence they have in their product. At the present time, they are leading the way and their confidence in their product will give the user confidence. I can guarantee you that anyone who buys a Maxus will be happy with it.
“The large service intervals are another major plus. Considering most people will change their van every five years anyway, you’re talking about completely risk-free driving. Where else will you get that? It’s no wonder they have won so many Van of the Year awards in the UK.”
