The supply chain specialists

General Manager John Halpin (Hy-Tech Logistics - Blanchardstown)

Hy-Tech Logistics is an independent third party logistics company which provides a complete range of supply chain services to the supply chain marketplace in Ireland and the Middle East. Recently, the Blanchardstown-based operation was awarded a trading licence in the new Dubai Logistics City development which is centred around the worlds
biggest international airport.

These are exciting times for leading Irish supply chain specialists Hy-Tech Logistics. Having seen turnover increase by 80 per cent last year, the company is now venturing into the burgeoning Middle-East logistics market after being awarded a licence to operate in the new Dubai Logistics development in the United Arab Emirates.

Since its establishment in 2000, Hy-Tech Logistics has been a growing force in the Irish market with the provision of a range of support services to companies with a supply chain activity. With services ranging from Logistics Operations and Freight Forwarding to Recruitment and Education & Learning, Hy-Tech Logistics prides itself on being a total supply chain solutions provider.

“We’re a one-stop shop for logistics services” says Operations Manager David Burke.
“We offer our clients a complete logistics service aimed at saving them money and time. What we’re also trying to do is to attract more people to the industry. We want to make people aware that there is a definite career path in this business and it also affords the opportunity to travel the world. It isn’t just about pushing boxes around a warehouse, which is sometimes the perception of the industry”.

Hy-Tech Logistics was started by Managing Director Stuart Burke in 2000. The management team within the company is John Halpin (General Manager), David Burke (Operations Manager) Emlyn Regan (Warehouse Manager), Nick Tallon (Supply Chain Manager) and Mary McMahon (Freight Forwarding Manager).
Initially, the company specialised in Freight Forwarding, but by working closely with customers on a number of issues, it was able to identify gaps in the market where specialist support services were lacking. As a result, Hy-Tech Logistics is now divided into six strategic business units: Logistics Operations; Consultancy Services; Installation Services; Freight Forwarding Operations; Education & Learning; Supply Chain Recruitment.

The Logistics Operations unit specialises in the following: the provision of outsourced dedicated or shared warehousing facilities utilising the latest technology; supply of contract warehouse management on a client premises; management of procurement and inventory management activities; national and international distribution operations.
Hy-Tech’s Consultancy Services include: supply chain audit and operational assessment; supply chain re-engineering and design; bespoke consulting services on specific aspects of supply chain management.
Installation Services include: the installation and relocation of scientific, computer and valued equipment; complete laboratory re-location. Freight Forwarding Operations covers freight forwarding from national to global coverage and provision of freight management software.

The Education & Learning unit provides learning-based programmes at Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels in logistics and transport, accredited by CILT as well as client specific education programmes in all aspects of supply chain management.
Supply Chain Recruitment offers companies the exclusive recruitment of supply chain personnel from operative to Director levels; the option of full-time, part-time, shift-based, temporary or contract arrangements for all industry sectors; management of placements according to pre-defined roles on an in-plant basis.
Last year saw the launch of www.recruit-logistics.com, the first Irish jobs website dedicated solely to vacancies in the logistics market. The website is already a huge success, as General Manager John Halpin explains “The amount of traffic on the site is increasing all the time and we are currently averaging 100,000 hits per month. There is a wide range of positions available and we have just launched the CV database service which will greatly enhance the site. This service will be supported by a range of marketing activity from TV and radio to print and, of course, the web. Candidates can post their CV or profile on the site and employers can access a pool of available, industry specific talent, to fill their vacancies. Both candidates and employers can log onto the site and see what it has to offer for them”.

Hy-Tech Logistics management firmly believe that the supply chain interventions and support structures they need to provide should be based on the customer service strategy employed by the client themselves. These interventions, which can range from a consultancy audit of the supply chain, bespoke training interventions, globally accepted logistics and transport qualifications, fully outsourced logistics solutions, or indeed satisfying recruitment needs, are reflective of this philosophy.
Hy-Tech Logistics holds the distinction of being the first Irish company to be granted a trading licence in Dubai Logistics City (DLC), which enables it to provide a world class service to the world market.

“We chose Dubai because it’s an emerging market. It’s where east meets west” says John Halpin.
“We had a very successful 2006 and this has allowed us to pursue our objective of continued growth in Ireland while developing our business in the Middle-East. Dubai is an important gateway in the logistics market and we have positioned ourselves at the hub of this activity, providing support services to operators based in and working throughout the region. Dubai Logistics is centred around Dubai InternationalAirport which will be the worlds largest passenger and cargo hub. When this exciting development is complete, it will have a population of 750,000 people living and working there each day. This provides a substantial challenge to operators setting up in the tax free-zone in terms of recruitment to populate their warehouse and freight hubs, and Hy-Tech Logistics will work with hiring companies to attract the best available talent on the market. The awarding of our trading licence is the culmination of a long and complex process and we are delighted to be at the forefront of Irish companies in the logistics market in the United Arab Emirates” said Halpin.

We came into the logistics market at a good time and there is so much more yet to happen in terms of promoting the industry. We’re looking to the future with much optimism” added David Burke
