Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd. has long been a highly-respected name throughout
Ireland. Recently, its glowing reputation is also spreading through the
UK and mainland Europe.
The company was established over three decades ago to provide an island-wide
plant haulage service. But, since 1993, Mar-Train has expanded rapidly
to meet the requirements of a niche in the market, specialising in the
haulage of heavy and/or abnormal loads (including wind farms). This expansion
has seen the company fleet grow dramatically to 23 tractor units and over
70 trailers.
Tractor units range from 6x2 38 tonne vehicles to 8x4 200 tonners. Thus,
Mar-Train has the capacity to provide a vehicle to suit any job. The fresh
and beautifully-maintained fleet of tractor units are mainly Volvo, many
of them bespoke or customised to enable them to meet the particular demands
placed on heavy haulage vehicles.

As for the vast, flexible fleet of trailers, the Co. Down based heavy
haulage specialist, operates 40-foot flats, flat tops, blade carriers,
step frames, low loaders, modular and semi-modular equipment, and clamp
systems. Mar-Train can provide everything from a 40-foot flat to a triple-extendable
flat capable of extending up to 52 metres.
Mar-Train Heavy Haulage was the first haulage company in Northern Ireland
to invest in modular equipment. Such progressive capital investment has
enabled Mar-Train to establish itself at the forefront of the wind farm
transportation sector. In the last five year, the company has been involved
in haulage on over 25 windmill projects throughout Ireland and the UK.

The company plays a major roll also in the transportation of plant machinery,
providing local delivery for CAT and cross-channel transport for JCB,
Komatsu and Daewoo. Meanwhile, work for one of their largest clients
Powerscreen International in Dungannon has brought Mar-Train to
all corners of the continent. Others listed within the impressive portfolio
of local customers include F.G. Wilson, Macrete Ireland, Shorts Bombardier
and Fisher Engineering.
The astute range of low loaders includes a semi-modular 7-axle Broshuis
which can carry 125 tonnes and modular Goldhofer equipment with a load
capacity of 250 tonnes.
Mar-Train also boasts a wide range of step frame trailers, ranging from
three-axle single extendables to seven-axle triple extendables, all with
full power steering.

The fleet is tailored towards all types of construction, engineering,
plant and wind farm haulage. Flat tops come with three or four axels and
full hydraulic steering with manual over-ride and a carrying capacity
of up to 70 tonne.
Low loaders range from three- to eight-axle, also with hydraulic steering
and manual over-ride (single or double extendable beds). Mar-Trains
step frames, with a carrying capacity of 100 tonne, come in three- to
seven-axle - either single, double or triple extendable.
Over the years, Mar-Train has been active on many prestigious projects
in Ireland, the UK and throughout Europe. These include the excavation
of the Dublin Port Tunnel, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link under the Thames
and the aforementioned wind farm projects in Ireland and the UK.
The company is in a position to offer customers a full logistics package
for the transportation of over-sized or awkward loads. Incorporating every
stage of the process, this includes route surveys, permit application,
haulage and the provision of escort vehicles.
The ongoing success of Mar-Train Heavy Haulage Ltd. is largely due to
the directors commitment to providing an excellent, unrivalled level
of customer service as well as their keen attention to detail, thereby

Health and safety considerations have always been paramount within every
facet of the operation. To this end, each employee is educated in accordance
with Mar-Trains stringent health and safety policy. An external
company is deployed to ensure that each driver, member of traffic staff,
vehicle attendant and engineer is CSR certified. This has led to a pristine
health and safety record.
A careful driver bonus scheme is also in place internally, with rewards
payable twice a year to drivers who are not involved in any accidents.
A nice incentive and good for morale within the workforce!
Offering an unparalleled level of customer service, Mar-Trains all-round
excellence has culminated in many awards including the prestigious
