A word to the Wyse

Wyse Transport provides a quality, punctual and thoroughly reliable service to a host of discerning clients throughout Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. The Swords-headquartered company is constantly moving with the times to ensure that its service levels remain second to none. Irish Trucker took a closer look…

Wyse Transport Limited was founded in March 2001 by Bernard White & Ken Maher and operates from a spacious state-of-the-art depot in Swords Business Park, County Dublin. The company has made dramatic progress in a relatively short period of time and now provides key solutions to a wide range of satisfied customers at home and abroad.

Both directors have a keen knowledge of the industry and also boast sharp customer services skills. They offer a personal touch and are always on hand to answer any questions or queries. This guarantees customers peace of mind at all times.
All staff and drivers are fully-trained, highly-skilled and have many years of experience in the transport industry. The transport team is led by the founding-directors, who oversee day-to-day operational needs with assistance from Paul Whelan.
Ken Maher has a strong background in the transport sector, having worked previously for Irish Express Cargo. Once IEC wrapped up its operations, he spotted an opening in the market for a quality service provider, which culminated in the genesis of Wyse Transport at the turn of the millennium. The hands-on approach of the directors is a crucial component in the company’s success to date, affording accountability, transparency and integrity to clients who appreciate having their fingers on the pulse.

Wyse Transport is continually expanding its fleet of trucks, trailers and vans to suit the needs of clients. The company started from humble beginnings with just one truck offering a local distribution service in the capital. By re-investing and strategically growing the company, the owners were soon offering a more comprehensive nationwide, UK and continental service.
The fleet currently comprises 38 trucks in total, 25 of which are articulated. These are predominantly Scania, with some DAF and Volvo models also included. The remainder is made up of 7.5 ton rigids, vans and car vans. With a large selection of 40-foot trailers, Wyse Transport can provide a complete solution. “We specialise in pretty much everything,” says Ken. “We offer a versatile service and can collect and deliver just about any consignment.”

As well as making sure that all vehicles are in top nick at all times, every effort is made to ensure that the fleet is fresh and pleasing on the eye. To this end, the oldest unit in the fleet is an ’01-reg. By regularly servicing the trucks, maintenance and fuel consumption rates are minimised. “A newer truck offers much greater economy,” Ken notes. “And in today’s market an extra mile to the gallon makes a big difference.”
Is the astronomical rise in the price of fuel placing undue pressure on the team at Wyse Transport? “Fuel has gone through the roof and margins are tight, but we have to find a happy medium. Generally, the company is doing very well. Of course, we’re always hoping to attract more business and we’ve just taken on a sales rep to hopefully drum up more interest. We’d like to fully capitalise on the trucks we have, rather than expanding the fleet further.”

With an immaculate image and reputation, Wyse Transport is in a strong position. “How we’re perceived has always been a core value,” Ken agrees. “The key to our business is dependability and reliability and we provide this 24/7. We’re always on time and customers appreciate it when you stick to your side of the deal.”
Nor is the IT-conscious company reluctant to embrace cutting-edge technology. The latest satellite tracking and computer software have been introduced and this affords the directors full knowledge of what their trucks are doing – as well as where and when. This is especially handy when the trucks are ready to roll into any city in Europe.
“We’re geared to go anywhere in Europe,” Ken continues. “Recently, we’ve been to Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, Austria, Switzerland etc. We can go anywhere with any type of goods. We have a selection of 45 different trailers – fridges, boxes, curtainsiders etc. – and this allows us to deal with literally any type of cargo.”

Fully affiliated to the Irish Road Haulage Association and offering a comprehensive road transport service to most national and international destinations (as well as local collections/deliveries), Wyse Transport provides gainful employment to a team of 38 at present and the founders are confident that they can continue to go from strength to strength. “We hope to expand,” Ken concludes. “Even though the economy appears to be slowing down, we have taken on a rep and we’re planning to grow the business and secure the future for everybody associated with Wyse Transport.”
