Calling all hauliers
CKH Fiscal Services and Irish Trucker have joined forces to send out an
important message to all hauliers working on the continent, which could
earn them huge savings.
In short, a large number of Irish hauliers are failing to reclaim VAT
refunds when purchasing diesel abroad, while in some countries where excise
duty can be reclaimed, the same situation is occurring.
This article sets out to explain why and how this is happening to truckers
all over Europe and the startling figures of unclaimed funds will surprise
many.
Talk of VAT and most business men receive a shudder down their spine and
the haulage industry is no different. However, where haulage contractors
working on the continent are concerned, it need not be all doom and gloom.
Almost every transport operator is entitled to reclaim the VAT spent on
fuel in all EU countries, while in Belgium and France, they are allowed
claim back a percentage of the excise duty.
However, for one reason or another, many hauliers have failed to do so
with the fact that many dont know they can, while some of the smaller
firms believe that only big companies qualify for the exemption, which
is entirely untrue.
Most hauliers fill up before heading off on a long distance run and from
the diesel that they buy here in Ireland, they can claim the VAT back.
This is the case with all EU states and CKH Fiscal want to ensure that
all hauliers are aware of what they are entitled too.
Firstly, lets take a look at the services that the Dublin based
firm offer and although some companies offer a similar service, CKH pay
all funds reclaimed directly into their clients bank account.
Everyone knows that dealing with VAT can be a complex and complicated
issue. Nonetheless, CKH take away that strain, leaving the haulier to
concentrate on what he does best, driving lorries.
With over 40 years experience, CKH has the knowledge and personnel to
deliver a fast efficient service specialising in providing a cost-effective
and comprehensive European Union taxation package for solely for the transport
sector.
Hauliers are entitled to claim the VAT back up to a year after they have
made fuel purchases and once CKH receive receipts, they can take it from
there and within a matter of weeks, the money will be in the clients account.
CKH offers its service at a competitive rate that can be rivalled by none
of its competitors. No fees are deducted from the refunds as clients will
be invoiced later on, which shows all hauliers exactly how much they receive.
Unlike most tax agents, CKH can claim both VAT and Excise duty where applicable.
As a registered tax agent in all EU states, the company has been involved
in implementing the 8th VAT directive since it was adopted by the EU in
1979.
Any fears that there is still plenty of work to be done before CKH begin
its procedure can be allayed by the list of how it works as we now explain.
The first thing you need to do is to fill out an application for CKH to
be appointed as your VAT agent in the various EU states in which you operate.
CKH then notify the relevant VAT Repayment Offices in these states that
they have been appointed as your tax agent.
In order to commence claiming VAT refunds on your behalf, they then send
a VAT certificate to the EU states concerned to confirm that you are registered
for VAT in your own country. It is important to note that this is NOT
a Tax Clearance Certificate and it has nothing to do with your VAT being
paid up to date. It is simply a confirmation that you are registered for
VAT and your private tax affairs are not at issue. Indeed, these are always
treated with strict confidentiality by the Taxation Authorities and they
are never divulged to CKH or to any other party.
Finally, a Letter of Authority or sometimes, a Power of Attorney for each
state is needed in which you operate which enables them to submit applications
for claims, to receive correspondence, to appeal any refund refusals and
to claim the actual VAT refunds on your behalf.
A survey conducted in the UK four years ago revealed that in the 15 member
states of the old European Union 53.4% of all cross-border VAT which could
be recovered is not being claimed.
In the 15 states, cross-border transaction VAT payments amount to about
10bn euros (£6.8bn). Only 4.5bn (euros) is being reclaimed
and 2.5bn of that is in the Netherlands. This means that vast numbers
of companies across Europe are not reclaiming cross-border VAT.
This is an astounding figure in general, but given the current economic
climate, it has reached unbelievable proportions as so much funding is
there ready to be reclaimed.
Some hauliers may feel that they dont qualify because they are too
small or they are not claiming enough, but that is not the case with invoices
as low as €100 being processed with no amount being too small.
So to put everything in a nutshell, there is money there for hauliers
working on the continent to claim, so why not contact CKH Fiscal Service
Ltd today and let their expert staff talk you through the full procedure
and start the process of reclaiming that VAT and excise duty.
