Clearing all obstacles

Joe Flynn Site Excavations is in a class of its own when it comes to the specialist fields of demolition, site excavation and mobile cranes. As well as its core areas of excellence, the Blessington-headquartered company is also a fully-registered and –permitted waste collector. All in all, Joe Flynn Site Excavations has come a long way since its genesis in 1996.

Flynn Site Excavations runs a modern and well-maintained fleet

Originally, the company operated out of Tallaght, County Dublin. However, in late 2007, Joe Flynn Site Excavations successfully completed a strategic relocation from its birthplace to a new facility at Edmondstown, on the Dublin Road in Blessington, County Wicklow. The relocation is key to the ongoing success of this self-made, family business that today continues to provide the same high-quality service for which it’s renowned.

Of course, the recession has affected everybody – and Joe Flynn Site Excavations is no different – but the company directors are cutting their cloth accordingly and have made some slight tweaks to ensure that Joe Flynn sees out the downturn and continues to go from strength to strength.

Eponymous founder and proprietor Joseph Flynn has built the demolition/site excavation company up painstakingly over the years. At the peak of the economic boom, he operated a 55-strong fleet and provided gainful employment to a crew of close to 80 people. Those days have gone, things have slowed down, but the company is ticking over pretty well.

Transport manager Roisin Flynn, Joseph’s daughter, assesses the lie of the land: “We’re still in the same line of work and, even though it’s slowed down, we’re kept fairly busy. We’ve had to downsize a small bit, but we’re still running 30 vehicles and we’re still getting work. We have built up a very good reputation in the industry and that is standing to us.”

A number of prestigious projects were ongoing at the time of writing. Joe Flynn Site Excavations was active on developments for Bank of Scotland in Cherrywood, St Vincent’s Hospital (for David Wall Contracts) and Maynooth College (for David Wall & Co.). These are all highly sought after contracts and the fact that Joe Flynn Site Excavations was chosen underlines the high esteem in which they are held.

This hasn’t happened by chance. Years of hard, honest endeavour have been invested in the company and today every job is still treated with the same importance and attention-to-detail as the very first one. No job was ever considered too big or too small and every client has always been afforded the utmost respect. From this, a mutual respect formed and this has led to Joe Flynn Site Excavations taking its place at the head of the market.

The company has developed, thrived and flourished thanks to a combination of foresight, application as well as a strong work ethic allied to a keen emphasis on customer service. By looking after his customers’ every need and offering a thoroughly-dependable service, Joe Flynn has come a long way in 13 short years.

During the course of a decade or so based in Tallaght, Joe progressed the company from humble origins into a thriving concern. He started out with just a handful of trucks but, when the boom started, he never took the company for granted or neglected it. Instead, he kept investing inwardly and adding more units to the fleet. There was huge demand for site excavation and demolition work, so the business grew steadily, but always remained efficient.

Joe FlynnÕs work takes him to sites nationwide

Joe runs a perfectly-maintained fleet of tippers and artics, drawing a wide range of construction waste (rubble, muck, stone etc.) from site to landfill or recycling destinations. Needless to say, with the environment now a major concern in both the construction and haulage sectors, every effort is made to ensure that as much C&D waste as possible is directed away from landfill.
Joe Flynn Site Excavations boasts a strong and impressive portfolio of clients, including a number of major construction contracting firms in and around the greater Dublin area. Predominantly, Joe covers the Dublin/Kildare/Wicklow area but the nature of the work is very much nationwide and the company has been involved in project in Munster, Connacht and Ulster. Thus, there are no limits and the company is extremely flexible when it comes to job location … probably more so than ever in the current climate.

Providing a genuine personal touch, Joe Flynn Site Excavations is very much a family business. The founder’s daughter Roisin is transport manager, while his son Colm and daughter Laura head up Flynn Crane Hire, which is one of the company’s sub-contractors.
A motivated and highly-trained crew provides a specialist site removal solution that cannot be beaten. No stone is left unturned (no pun intended) in terms of ensuring complete customer satisfaction.

The company has been going for 13 years

The proprietor is happy with the manner in which his staff represent the business on a daily basis. Modern technology is embraced to ensure total traceability/accountability. For example, the latest tracking systems have been installed and this enables the girls to monitor all trucks from the comfort of the office. Thereby, customers can find out where the vehicles are in a matter of seconds.
Joe Flynn Site Excavations holds all the relevant permits and licenses required to collect construction waste in counties Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Limerick, Meath, Kerry etc. and keeps a close eye on all legislation, especially regarding Health & Safety - a key area in the haulage sector and one where no chances can be taken. The welfare of staff and customers is of paramount importance. Staff are briefed regularly in all aspects of Health & Safety and toolbox talks are also conducted on site regularly.

Since moving to the larger base in Blessington two years ago, the business is more efficient and this has proven important since the economy nosedived. As well as a bigger yard, Joe has extra workshop space, where five lads look after the needs of the fleet. Regarding the future, a spell of consolidation awaits for everybody in the industry. But, with so much groundwork done, Joe Flynn Site Excavations holds a stronger hand than most:

“We get the job done, properly and on time,” Roisin concludes. “It all comes down to time and we always keep our word. If we say we’ll get something done by a certain date, than that’s what we do.
“As for the future, the work is still coming in at the moment and we hope it continues to do so. We are continuing to provide quality equipment and a quality service. We’ve maintained a strong client base and we’re confident they’ll stay with us.”
