Commenting on the current market conditions Alan Cooney said “The contraction in new car sales, down approx 63 has had a devastating effect on the motor industry, as clearly can be seen with the loss of many large well known and long established motor dealer already this year. Action needs to be taken by the Government to prevent the loss of more, as the estimates for next year predict similar number of sales. We will see wholesale changes in the motor industry over the coming year.”
Cooney motors, like all involved in the motor industry have found trading difficult in the current economical climate. Commenting on the situation Alan said “The market is difficult for all business at present and it is vital to try to provide our customers with quality service at a fair price. He continued to say “It is thanks to the support of our customers, local community and employee that we are still in business”.

The workshop is fully equipped with all the latest technology

Commenting on the market for next year Alan said “A scrappage system would be a great help but would only work in conjunction with a freeing up of finance availability for intervals and business.
Commenting on one of the positive effects of inward investment in company. Our VTN test centre for light commercials is an important factor in our overall business. We upgrade our equipment and test lane to meet the latest standards set out by the RSA over two years ago and this has enabled us to do upwards of 12 D.O.E daily. I believe that with the supervision of the RSA and improving standards, road safety will improve. Road testing is one of the many ways the RSA can reduce the number of people killed on the roads, it is estimated that vehicle defect contributed to 12% of accidents, thankfully this figure is coming down”.
