Regrooved Michelin XDA 1 tyres heading for 350,000
kilometres for Birds Groupage
International hauliers Birds Groupage of Oldbury in the
West Midlands operate across Europe and Ireland with particular
emphasis on long distance routes to Germany delivering groupage.
Their tractor fleet comprises Scania and Mercedes. To achieve
the best possible results, Birds Groupage use the highest
specification of vehicle and top quality tyres.
A pair of drive axle315/70 R22.5 Michelin XDA 1 tyres fitted to
a Scania 124L 4x2 unit used regularly on routes to Germany have
recently shown tremendous performance for Birds Groupage,
travelling 311,282 kilometres before regrooving was necessary
in conjunction with Michelins Four Life tyre management
policy. These tyres, which are still fitted to the same vehicle,
are expected to achieve another 50,000 kilometres after regrooving.
The front axle XZA 1 tyres fitted to the same unit have achieved
an identical figure of 311,282.
What we need from our tyres is total reliability and long
life. Michelin tyres are recognised as industry leaders and that
is why we are fitting them to our fleet in increasing numbers,
said a spokesperson for Birds Groupage. We know that
we can rely totally on the technical advice and guidance of our
Michelin representative in achieving the best possible performance
from our tyres, he added.
Regrooving is a renowned method of extending tyre life by up to
28.5 per cent. A quick, easy and economical process it greatly
improves wet road grip and safety as a result of the deepening
and widening of the tyres tread pattern.
