Outstanding fuel savings for Gibb’s transport from Michelin energy 2 tyres

The considerable fuel savings that Michelin Energy 2 tyres can achieve for hauliers has been clearly demonstrated in a series of tests conducted by Fraserborough based Thomas Gibb Transport in conjunction with Michelin.

Gibb’s Transport fleet comprises 14 Scania three and four series twin steer tractor units, one DAF 95 XF, one Iveco Eurostar and one Iveco Eutotech unit. The Scottish haulier also operate 27 three axle Gray & Adams refrigerated trailers in their haulage business whose routes are principally to Southern England, France and Germany. A family company, Gibb’s Transport was established in 1896 and is now run by Director James Gibb Senior with his two sons James Gibb junior and Graham. Gibb’s Transport constantly strive to maintain the excellent levels of customer service they have established over many years.

In a revealing series of comparative tests conducted over a 6 month period a Scania 124L tractor unit and a Gray and Adams trailer unit from the Gibb’s fleet were first fitted with an alternative brand of tyres and then switched to Michelin Energy 2 tyres. The tractor unit was shod with 315/80 R22.5XZA 2 tyres and the trailer unit with 385/65 R22.5 XTA 2 tyres.
Figures recorded by Michelin revealed an amazing 13.86% or 0.352 kilometres per litre saving for Energy 2 tyres over the alternative brand. Savings over 100,000 kilometres using Energy 2 tyres amounted to a staggering £3,159.71.

“Following our excellent experience of the original Michelin Energy tyres we were very keen to see just how well the new Michelin Energy 2 tyres would perform,” said James Gibb junior. “We need to take advantage of every fuel saving opportunity and these tests demonstrated beyond doubt that fitting Michelin Energy 2 tyres enables us to make significant inroads into our fuel bill,” he added.
