N8 Action Group considering running candidate in by-election

The N8 Action Group, based in south Tipperary has renewed its threat to run a candidate in the forthcoming by-election, if the declared candidates fail to back its opposition to the proposed N8 motorway between Mitchelstown and Cashel.

The group headed by former IFA president Joe Rea said the group would assess the responses from the directors of elections at a meeting next Monday night. The Group will then decide if they are to run a candidate before the close of nominations on Tuesday.

Mr Rea would not be drawn on whether he would run for election. He stated: “I don’t know, we will have to gives the parties a chance to respond.”
