100% Michelin for Morris Transport

Fitting Michelin Energy A2 tyres to two Scania R124-420 tractor units has produced a massive 13.8% for major fleet operator Morris Transport. The Oswestry based fleet operator will be fitting Michelin’s new tyres to all their trucks in future.
Morris Transport operate a 45 strong fleet of Scania, Leyland Daf, Volvo and Renault 38 tonne tractor units and refrigerated Gray and Adams trailers on regular routes throughout the UK and Germany.

The two Scania units were monitored on a monthly basis in a carefully managed study to confirm the level of fuel savings available from Michelin’s Energy A2 tyres. With a new, more abrasion resistant rubber compound and a wider and deeper tread to maximise grip, Michelin A2 Energy tyres offer fleet operators the ideal solution to optimise budgets.

Fuel performance was originally monitored for a period of 120,000 km on Michelin XZE-2 steer and XDE-2 drive axle tyres fitted to the Scania units which make regular trips on European routes to Germany. After the vehicles were fitted with XZA2 Energy steer and XDA2 Energy drive tyres, the vehicles fuel consumption was monitored again on a monthly basis for a further 130,000kms. The result was an outstanding 13.8% saving on previous fuel costs.

Importantly the fuel savings were not made at the cost of tyre performance. A remaining tread depth of 7mm is evident on the tyres giving an excellent projected tyre life in excess of 260,000 kms for the XZA2 Energy steer axle tyres and 350,000 kms for the XDA2 Energy drive axle tyres.
