Penalty points system is working - NSC

The National Safety Council (NSC) believes the introduction of the penalty points system is already saving lives.

NSC spokesman Brian Farrell said last night 3rd November that while it was still early days, anecdotal evidence suggested that more drivers were adhering to speed limits since the introduction of the penalty points system last Thursday 31st October.

"It has got to be having an effect, drivers do seem to be keeping to the speed limits as many of them realise how easy it could be to notch up 12 penalty points and lose their licence," he commented.
