Minister confirms review of speed limits
Transport Minister Seamus Brennan has confirmed that speed limits will
be reviewed as part of a move to all-metric road signage.
Speaking over the weekend Mr Brennan said: "If we are insisting people
respect the speed limits, it is important that those limits are sensible."
The AA is calling for a full audit of all speed limits and has urged the
gardai to concentrate on accident black spots, rather than profitable
stretches of road where catching speeding motorists is "like shooting
fish in a barrel."
The AA is also urging the need for an information campaign to combat public
confusion about the speed limits, which range from 30 to 40 miles per
hour in built up areas to 60 on open roads and dual carriageways, and
70 on motorways.
