20 mph speed limit introduced in Northern Ireland
Twenty miles per hour speed limits have been introduced in residential
areas of Northern Ireland in a bid to cut road deaths and serious injuries.
Motorists are being asked to observe the new reduced speed limit, but
exceeding it will not result in a penalty.
Junior Environment Minister with responsibility for road safety, Angela
Smith said yesterday 6th November that road safety was everybody's responsibility.
She said she hoped motorists would observe the new "voluntary"
speed limit in residential areas to help improve Northern Irelands
road safety record.
