Motorists get the message

Speeding offences throughout the country have been slashed dramatically since the introduction of the penalty points system last week, according to Garda sources.

A Garda spokesman said last night, November 7th that there has been a major change in driver behaviour in the last week, and most motorists are now obeying speed limits.

The number of speeding offences detected in Galway have fallen by 90 per cent. Just 10 speeding tickets were handed out in Galway city and county over the last week, compared to an average 255 tickets per week, prior to the introduction of the penalty points system.

Garda stations throughout the country have reported similar statistics.
