Abandoned truck pair stands trial

Two men have been charged with the attempted importation of euro 25 million worth of drugs from the continent.
Michael Howard, 33, of Knocktoran, Co Limerick and Morgan McGrath, 31 of Bansha, Co Tipperary were remanded in custody at Ballybay District Court in Co Monaghan yesterday morning.

The charges relate to the seizure by Belgian police of a haul of drugs concealed in an abandoned truck close to the French border in August.

Gardai objected to bail on the grounds that the charges were so serious and they believed the men might not turn up for the trial.
