IRHA makes pre-budget submission
The Irish Road Haulage Association has pleaded with the Government not
to increase excise duties on fuel, in the forthcoming budget, writes John
Loughran.
In its pre-budget submission the Association has stated that further increases
would have the potential to drive a number of haulage companies out of
business.
The Association also wants the Government to review the legislation in
relation to insurance companies operating in the state with a view to
increasing competition in the sector.
IRHA spokesman Jimmy Quinn said: "Our members have experienced massive
increases to operational costs over the past 12 months which has resulted
in a number of our members being forced out of business. It is imperative
for the haulage industry that these overheads are reduced quickly. Otherwise,
it is inevitable that more and more of our haulage firms will no longer
be able to continue with running their businesses."
