Archaeological find in O'Connell Street may further delay Luas line

Contractors working on the Luas light rail line have uncovered a 300-year old house in the middle of O’Connell Street, Dublin.

The remains of the house, believed to date back to the 17th century was uncovered during excavation works in the middle of the street at lunchtime yesterday, 12th November.

A team of archaeologists are now working on the site to determine the significance of the discovery. It is understood that if the site proves to be of significant importance, it will be fully excavated and recorded.

A spokesperson for the Railway Procurement Agency could not confirm yesterday, 12th November if the discovery would delay the completion of the Luas light rail project.
