Ferry companies are confident of security measures
Irish Sea ferry operators are on "heightened security" alert
following warnings of possible terrorists attacks on unspecified British
ports.
The warning emanated from Britain on Monday 11th November when Prime Minister
Tony Blair hinted that terrorist threats had been made against unspecified
British ports.
A spokesperson for Irish Ferries said yesterday, 12th November that there
is tight security on ferries between Britain and Ireland, but in light
of the warnings, an instruction had been issued to all its employees to
be extra vigilant.
A Stena Line spokesman said that a very high level of security has been
in place since the September 11 attacks on the United States and that
the company was on an even higher state of alert now.
Swansea Cork Ferries said it fully supported the vigilant measures that
are taking place at UK ports and had increased their own security measures.
