Road projects to be shelved in swinging cuts

The Government is preparing to shelve a number of high-profile road projects, along with squeezing current spending in an attempt to bring public spending for 2003 below 8 per cent.

The Cabinet met yesterday 12th November to rubber stamp the Department of Finance's Book of Estimates. It is believed swingeing cuts across all departments, including the Department of Transport are to be made. Health and Education appear to be the only departments to have avoided the cuts.
