Oil spill disaster in Spain
A major environmental disaster was trying to be avoided off the coast
of Spain as rescue teams bid to secure the 3,000 tonnes of oil which leaked
in to the sea after the tanker Prestige was damaged following a storm.
Wildlife have already been affected by the spillage as a number of fish
and birds have begun to wash up on the shore in North Western Spain.
The ship was carrying a total of 70,000 tonnes of oil and although the
leak is stopped for the moment, bad weather has made it impossible for
the ship to be moved to a secure location.
Fears have also grown that the Prestige could break in two and release
the rest of its fuel into the sea, which would see one of the worst
environmental disasters in the world ever to occur.
