The M1 motorway north of Drogheda has been branded as the most dangerous road in the country by a coroner's court.

An inquest into the deaths of Gerard McLoughlin, from Anne Street, Dundalk, 22, Celine McArdle, 22, from Boyle O'Reilly Terrace, Dundalk and Elaine McGeough, 21, Barrack Street, Dundalk heard that the three lost their lives in a collision with a van on the motorway on August 13 this year.

The inquest was officially opened by Louth County Coroner Ronan McGrath and adjourned at the request of the gardai who are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Commenting on the crash Mr Maguire said: "It is appalling that these young people lost their lives on this road, which has been reported as the most dangerous in the country."
