Young Northern driver died instantly
An inquest into the death of a young driver in the North has been told
that the deceased died instantly when his vehicle was in high-speed collision
with a lorry.
Sixteen-year-old Glen Truesdale lost control of his Ford Escort car at
the Horseshoe Bend on Belfasts Crumlin Road on the afternoon of
February 10th last year.
Witnesses say the boy was driving at a speed of 60-70 mph when he collided
with an oncoming skip lorry.
An autopsy report showed that the deceased died immediately from a broken
neck. His front seat passenger escaped with minor cuts and bruising.
The driver of the lorry ended up in a ditch at the other side of the road.
After having been breathalysed and found negative for alcohol, the lorry
driver was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Police believed the death was caused by speeding and inexperience
while the coroner said the death was irresponsible.
