Nowhere to hide for speeders
To coincide with the launch of the National Safety Council/Irish Insurance
Federations new 1m euro road safety advertising campaign, Garda
Commissioner Pat Byrne has warned speeding motorists that they have no
place to hide.
Mr Byrne has promised that anyone caught breaking the speed limit will
be punished accordingly, insisting that the penalty points system will
be implemented rigorously.
In other words, a motorist who receives a speeding notice will also be
hit by penalty points.
Furthermore, Mr Byrne warns that motorists who think they can still speed
and evade the system are only kidding themselves:
The risk of detection is significant, with members of An Garda Siochana
making 15,000 speeding detections a month. Nearly 23,000 drivers have
already received penalty points.
The new ad comprises a 30-second montage of blood-curdling crash scenes.
It is being shown on RTE, TG4 and TV3.
