The best-laid trams of mice and men...
New warning signs will be erected in Dublin over the coming months to
warn the public of the dangers of the citys imminent tramway crossings.
Even though the Luas network is still only at a testing stage and services
wont begin until next year, the Railway Procurement Agency insists
that the public should be aware of the dangers inherent in the systems.
The most obvious threat the trams pose to visitors of this site is the
risk of electrocution from direct or indirect contact with overhead cables
and/or equipment.
According to a public notice issued by the RPA and the Department of Transport,
the minimum clearance beneath power cables will be six metres, which will
accommodate all vehicles except those carrying exceptionally high loads.
