Continental teams up with Advance Pitstop to aid Samaritans

Continental Tyres and Advance Pitstop have come up with a novel way to benefit Samaritan branches throughout the country in the coming weeks.

More than 50,000 "flyers" will be distributed to motorists throughout the country in the coming weeks. Each "flyer" includes a credit card sized coupon, which entitles the charity to a E10 donation on foot of every pair of tyres purchased.

The money raised from the Advance Pitstop / Continental Tyres project will be used to fund services provided by the Samaritans, including outreach programmes to school students, prisoners and young people.

Announcing the initiative, Paddy Murphy of Continental Tyres commented: "Continental Tyres is proud to support the fine work of the 1,800 Samaritan volunteers across 20 branches nationwide. As society becomes more stressful, the counselling service they provide takes on an ever greater importance in the community. Their efforts deserve assistance of this kind."

Terry Lennon of Advance Pitstop added: "We have tailored this promotion to the 34 individual Advance Pitstop outlets across Ireland, meaning motorists can be sure the monies donated will be put to good use in the local community. Aside from financial support, we are helping to highlight the 1850 60 90 90 helpline number, which is at the heart of the service."

This initiative, which runs until the end of 2004, follows on from the 2003 Summer Safety Blitz, which saw Advance Pitstop and Continental Tyres target thousands of motorists in a safety campaign.
