Shannon Airport could become European cargo hub

Shannon Airport could become Europe's air cargo hub, according to a report commissioned by Shannon Development.

At present the air freight business accounts for 40 per cent of world trade and it is the fastest growing mode of transport.
Aviation expert John Kassarda says the airport could be turned into a E5 billion hub for Europe, with the potential to create an additional 150,000 jobs.

A spokesman for Shannon Development commented: "With the unique strengths of the airport, the western seaboard has the potential to become a dynamic growth zone in an Irish and European context."
