Tunnel height wont be increased - IRHA
The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has grudingly accepted that
the height restriction at Dublin Port Tunnel wont be raised to accommodate
so-called super trucks.
IRHA communications director Jimmy Quinn said hauliers could live with
a maximum height clearance of 4.65 metres, provided an alternative overground
route was provided for oversize vehicles.
Quinn warned tthe Government that it could be hit with a multi-million
euro claim for compensation if the Government fails to provide an overground
route and proceeds with its proposed ban on high cube trailers.
Every road bridge built in Ireland in the last 25 years has had
a five metre clearance, so hauliers had a right to expect that the tunnel
would be the same, he commented.
I hope they designate a route they can use. I hope it doesnt
come to court cases, he concluded.
