Callely to seek stakeholder views on maximum height restriction

Junior Minister at the Department of Transport, Ivor Callely wants to hear the views of the haulage industry before he makes a final decision on a maximum height restriction for HGVs.

Speaking exclusively to www.irishtrucker.com, Callely says he isn’t going to make any rash decisions on what he describes as a “complex issue”.
“In relation to vehicle height, I am working with my officials on a draft discussion document. It will be open to all stakeholders. It will be a consultation process,” he confirmed.

The Dublin North Central TD says he has an open mind on the issue. “We are going to look at whether there is a need for a maximum height restriction for HGVs. The process will be undertaken without any pre-determined outcome,” he assured.

“We have a clean slate here. It is my intention to publish the paper and leave it out there with all the interested parties and the public for a period of four to six weeks. Only then will a decision be made,” he added.
