An Post ready to wind up SDS

An Post is set to close its loss-making parcel delivery service SDS in a move that could cost upwards on 800 jobs.

It is understood An Post made the decision to wind up SDS at a meeting in Dublin on Wednesday (July 28).

SDS has an 80,000 square foot warehouse on the Naas Road, Dublin and a depot in Athlone. The properties, which are valued at over E20 million, could be sold off to pay workers’ severance packages.

The parcel delivery service has been losing money for some years in the face of stiff competition from the private sector
