IRHA calls for hemisphere mirror legislation
The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has called on the Transport
Minister Martin Cullen to introduce legislation making it compulsory for
all new HGVs to be fitted with so-called hemisphere mirrors.
Speaking to www.irishtrucker.com IRHA communications director Jimmy Quinn
said Minister Cullen could make a huge contribution towards road safety
by enacting legislation with regard to hemisphere mirrors.
We have been looking for some time for legislation in this regard.
How many more people have to die before these mirrors are made mandatory
on all HGVs?
Quinn made the call in the wake of a coroners report into the death
of a pedestrian who was struck by an articulated lorry. The coroner said
he would write to Minister Cullen and urge him to make the use of hemisphere
mirrors on HGVs mandatory.
