Truckers react angrily to proposed super cube ban

The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) has reacted angrily to reports that Dublin City Council is ready to ban so-called super cube trucks from the city centre, when the Dublin Port Tunnel opens next year.

A spokesman for the association says it had been led to believe over size vehicles that wouldnÕt fit in the tunnel would be Òtraffic managedÓ out of the capital along specially designed HGV corridors.

ÒWe understand Dublin city councillors have included a proposal in their draft development plan to ban these trucks from the city centre. All along we have been told that a designated route for these vehicles would be put in place.Ó ÒThey (Dublin City Council) made a huge mistake when they didnÕt build the tunnel big enough.

Now they are trying to bury that mistake by banning these vehicles. It just wonÕt wash,Ó the spokesman added.
